I have the honour to forward to Your Lord-

ship herewith, a copy of the new Law, with transla-

tion, which I have received from Mr. Harriss Gestrell,

Commercial Attaché to this Embassy, relating to

"Postal Subventions to Shipping Companies". This

Law was passed early in the month in the Reichstag;

and grants a yearly subsidy of £75,000 to the North

German Lloyd Company for a fortnightly service to

China. Their former contracts and this new one

are to be jointly continued for fifteen years.
